Ph.D Programme:

Ph. D in one of the three areas:

(a) English Language Education (Ph. D in ELE)
(b) English Literature (Ph. D in English Literature)
(c) Linguistics and Phonetics

In the case of Linguistics and Phonetics, it is possible for you to specialize in different areas, and therefore the name of the degree awarded will be different: Ph. D in English (L&P), Ph. D in Linguistics, Ph. D in Phonetics, and Ph. D in Applied Linguistics.

Eligibility:

For Linguistics and Phonetics:

i. MA or M. Phil in Linguistics/Phonetics/Applied Linguistics

OR

ii. MA or M. Phil in English (with specialization in Linguistics and Phonetics) with a minimum GPA of 3.50 or 55% marks.

OR

iii. PGCTE/DTE (with evidence of having adequate background* in Linguistics and Phonetics) with a minimum GPA of 3.00.

For a Ph. D in English Language Education:

MA TESL/MA English (TESL)/MA English with at least one course in the area of ELT (with 55% or as per EFL University grading system norms)

OR

A pass in Semester 1 of PGDTE (or an equivalent) with a GPA of 3.00 without an E Grade.

OR

PGCTE (EFL University) with a minimum GPA of 3.00 without an E Grade.

For a Ph. D in English Literature:

MA in English with at least a high second class (55%)

OR

MA in the Humanities and the Social Sciences, with interest in and commitment to the research done at EFL University; but if the MA degree is not in English, a separate proficiency test of English will be administered; the medium of instruction in the MA should have been English.

Admission Time:Between April and May

Admission Procedure: Admission for all Ph. D programmes will be through a qualifying entrance test and an interview. Only those who pass the entrance test will be called for the interview.
